dear Justified
I really, really, really adore you. I'm still two episodes behind, but the last couple seriously hit it out of the park for me. Especially 1.11, which was almost everything I ever wanted in a Justified episode and plenty of things I didn't even know I wanted to boot.
First and foremost, after getting to see him drunk (and therefore kind of... I feel like there's a word I'm missing, but the best I can come up with now is flirty), I am even more head over heels for Deputy US Marshal Tim Gutterson than I was before. And I already loved him a lot. (It's possible the only reason 1.10 appealed to me so much was because we got to see a bit more Tim than usual. I am too close to it to be sure anymore.) I want all the fic in the world about him picking up other veterans (and possibly various law enforcement officers, or maybe some charming thieves or musicians or athletes) in bars. While maybe secretly being in love with Deputy US Marshal Rachel Brooks, or that could just be different fic entirely that I also want. (Basically, I want so much of what is discussed here; the Tim/Ben Sherman from Southland snippets that hackthis and maurheti spin out are made of awesome, especially.)
The lack of Rachel is the one thing I can think of that this episode was missing (well, and I wouldn't mind seeing Assistant US Attorney David Vasquez again, either). I miss her!
I'm on the fence about Tim/Raylan. I wouldn't rule it out, but it's not nearly as compelling as Raylan/Boyd at the moment.
Because holy shit, was there ever a lot of Raylan/Boyd! I mean, there's been a lot of Raylan/Boyd throughout, but it was positively overflowing this episode. An awful lot of looking and talking as if no one else existed in the world, as per usual, but with the highly amusing addition of reclining on the grass so close to each other that there was no grass showing between them. Plus, their fathers talking about them! Their conversation boiled down to each of them saying at least my son isn't as shameful and annoying as yours and Arlo (Raylan's father) ending it by telling Bo, "The only reason my son comes to Harlan is because of your son." ... All-righty then.
Really there were just a ton of awesome interactions this episode. Besides Arlo & Bo, Raylan & Boyd, and Tim & the very attractive soldier at the door of the VFW (yes, I have a little fixation), we got some good, meaty Arlo & Helen, Arlo & Raylan, Boyd & Bo, Chief Deputy Art Mullen & Helen, Art & Raylan, Raylan & the corrupt Sheriff he put in jail a couple of episodes back, Art & Boyd, Boyd & his flock, Raylan & Ava, Raylan & Winona, and, in a way, Raylan & Ava & Winona! There was even some Raylan terrorizing Dewey Crowe (again). :)
I am so looking forward to the last two episodes of the season. And then, I will be looking for fic. Surely there must be some good Justified fic out there somewhere. I hope!
