I need a HASS-D in category 1, 2, or 5. Any thoughts/comments about these two classes?
- 24.900 Introduction to Linguistics
- STS.005 Disease and Society in America

Alternatively, what HASSes/HASS-Ds are people taking next term?

I found 24.900 fun and then tiresome. It's sort of a cross between puzzle solving (morphology), rote memorization (phonetics), and some semi-tedious sentence diagramming.

I'd definitely recommend it if you're interested in the subject, and I might still recommend it if you're looking for something just to satisfy the requirement.

I was planning to take 24.900 either next term or the term after (based partially on schedule, and partially on whether Norvin Richards who I hear is awesome is teaching it).

Any linguistics folks know if he is?

ok, ok, so the simple "check the linguistics website, then call the office to confirm" says that Norvin is in fact teaching it next term. So schedule willing, I'll be there.

dude, *definitely* take 24.900 this fall. norvin richards is teaching it and he's really an awesome professor and personally i found the class a lot of fun, though i'm a linguistics person anyway.
