An old friend of mine who was a bit simple used to say "You must not be judgemental in this place, you can only be mental". Nowadays we hear a great deal about the dangers of being judgemental and the dire effects it can have on people, especially on children.

who says what to whom?
and in what voice?

judgement can be supportive or destructive
supportive is more helpful
to judge is to make an assessment of something but not someone

just because tv does it doesn't make it right
and as to the church,
that scene with the woman taken in adultery comes to mind
"has no man condemned you?"
"no"
"neither will I"
"go and sin no more"
go and live with the gift of forgiveness and love
a judgement but a loving response

i sometimes think
oh dear what were they thinking
the advice column in the NY Times
had a teenager asking what he should do
he was embarrassed by his mother's tattoos

i know many people who have tattoos
some small and obscure
some have deep meaning for the individual
and a woman who was into "body art"
these are all very nice people
