it's always like that
take St Francis
all that stuff was his world
materialism - that cloth business that gave his family wealth
the crusades - local wars - murder/mayhem/chaos
there is always a need for saints to rise up
and there are always saints
people who speak out
Martin Luther King - Dorothy Day - Caesar Chavez
and quiet hidden saints
people who live their lives helping others
being modest in their means
that Christian story at its base
love one another as i have loved you
we see all that razzle and flash
buy this - have this
but is it reality?
i don't think it is what people really want
love - mercy - justice
the cry is - care about me
our Francis - the pope
hears that cry
open the the doors
open your arms
embrace those who want
the doors have been closed for so long
