I don't know what provisions like that have been made. I suppose the diocese will contribute. Our own Adoration Sisters receive great support from the faithful. There are now 12/15 in the group.

I'm happy they are accepting sisters with Down's Syndrome.

That is really interesting. I can see why Canon law would be against people with mental disabilities entering religious orders in the past; it would prevent families 'putting away' such family members and it was probably considered that no-one with a learning disability was capable of making their own decisions about their future.

I am so pleased that the wrongness of both is now recognised. It is very obvious that people with Down's are almost all capable of making their own, informed, life decisions and their calling to the religious life should be taken just as seriously as your own was all those years ago.

This is so interesting. I'm delighted that this is now an option for women with Down's Syndrome, and realize there are some very special challenges involved within this community because of this. Still, the majority of those with Down's are well able to make decisions and live their own lives, although sometimes needing help. I think a supportive community would provide safety and comfort in routine.

Those suffering from Down's Syndrome are usually very loving people. Love is the basic value in any Christian living.

very true!
is a warm nurturing situation
but careful selection is needed
families could still be trying to influence a girl to make this decision
it is an easy answer for a family who wants to keep their child safe and provided for
