We hear these days of Christmas that Jesus, Mary and Joseph became refugees in Egypt because Herod was anxious about them disturbing his rule. Are there modern echoes

but the personal realities remain the same
the "Holy Family" and todays refugees
the danger - the fear - the dislocation
the emotional toll of having to leave all you know and love behind
the uncertainty of the future
the immediate demand of survival - a place to rest and something to eat
where to go?
who will help?

the human toll is always there
and it is composed of individuals
man and woman and child

lots of officious guards and customs people
