Someone just linked to this video on Twitter and I absolutely have to share it. It's from 2009, when Athletic played against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, and since we're playing them again tonight, I consider it very relevant.

For 24 years we have heard a lot about the proud, victorious history, but now we have this opportunity. From free Basque to free Basque will spread the message of the valiant Athletic with his 11 men, so far from home, proving their quality*, not just for Bilbao but for the entire Basque Country, and for the promise this country holds! Ernest Hemingway said that "a man can be destroyed but never defeated." I don't agree with this statement. Athletic can be defeated a thousand and one times but never destroyed. Even in its saddest moments, in its worst times, Bosman laws, opening of borders, mass nationalizations, double nationalities, or whatever, the team has proven to never give up and the fans have always been there to remind the players that they're Athletic de Bilbao, that it's an honour and a privilege to be wearing this shirt. Nobody can destroy us, when we fall we will get up again, and each time we'll be stronger than before, more furious than before, and more aware that we're the best team in the world. Nobody can destroy us, it's in our blood, red-and-white blood that circulates in our heart, blood that we will pass on to our children and cultivate just like our families have done it with us from the cradle, lion's blood!
