Javi, Iker & Ander @ Punto Pelota

Nov 25, 2011 18:20

Today Jennifer on Twitter linked me to this video and I'm really grateful she thought of me because it's one of the most brilliant videos I've ever seen. I died laughing repeatedly. And I also felt very proud at the end when the entire "Punto Pelota" team agreed that Athletic are awesome. :D ( Read more... )

I am here! With a translation! And a very sore stomach from laughing so much!

Irene Junquera: We’re here with the three “pearls” of Athletic, I wanted to interview you three because I hear that you guys don’t get along very well. ("os lleváis super mal")

Javi Martínez: Yeah.

Ander Herrera: Since I got here, I’ve had big problems with these two, and I’m anxious to get them out of my sight as soon as possible.

Irene: Is that feeling mutual?

Iker Muniain: (something I can’t quite make out) On that basis, no, I just want to say that for me, it’s really hard to get up every morning knowing that I have to come here and see their faces.

Irene: Javi, can we say that you’re the “father” of these two?

Javi: Yes, yes, I normally... I’m the one who takes care of them.

Ander: The truth is that he has a lot of experience, and he’s a very wise guy, and we try to learn from him. (Proceeds to crack up. Poor Javi!)

Irene: Now we’re going to talk about football... who’s the one who’s in charge in the locker room?

Iker: Who’s in charge? After ( ... )

These three absolutely crack me up. XDDDD Fortunately Irene Junquera knew of their hilarity potential and asked them the right questions! XDD

Poor Javi, getting mocked by Ander, but I couldn't even be mad at him because I was too busy laughing at his facial expression! XDDD

I'm not surprised that Iker said he's the boss of Athletic's dressing room. After all, he already decided he was captain of the U-21. XDD

Iker has everyone wrapped around his little finger. It's just a fact. So he's obviously el que manda.

But I am totally with Irene - they are just THE BEST. This interview is one of my favorite things I've translated, ever. And it's not because of my shoddy translation skills, let me tell you. XD

Irene: But who has the most followers on Twitter? How many followers do you have?

Iker: I have 115,000; Javi has like twenty or thirty thousand, and Ander has twenty thousand. You can have my extra ones.

Irene: Thanks, man!

Ander: That’s what happens when you have no social life and you spend all day hooked on Twitter.

Javi: Everything he does, he tweets.

Irene: Have you stopped studying journalism?

Ander: I’ve taken a break (literally “parked it”), I haven’t stopped. Don’t say that or my mother’s going to get mad!

Irene: But how long have you been taking a break for?

Javi: Journalism, social studies, psychology...

Ander: I took a break about... almost two-and-a-half years ago now, but I want to start back up again, you know? With this whole thing, coming to Bilbao, getting acclimated...

Javi: Yeah, that’s the excuse I used, and I’ve been getting acclimated here for six years now!

Irene: What would be the perfect question to ask Javi?

Ander: I’d ask Javi... why he has style, you know? Style, today he’s gone for a little ( ... )

(I should add, in defense of Javi and Ander, that they actually have 70,000 and 60,000 followers, respectively. Iker's just being a brat! XD)

Iker does like to brag about his followers on Twitter! LMAO!

I LOVE HOW THEY KEEP TEASING EACH OTHER!! The bit where Iker says the price tag has gone to Ander's head, or Ander's comment on Javi's clothes, and Javi asking Iker what he'd do to be normal - AHAHAHA! XD

The teasing - it is, as they say in Spanish, just true buen rollo. (Like the "banda de los paticortos" moment. Still one of my personal highlights.) They act like normal guys their age, and it is ridiculously endearing. <3 them so much!

Irene: What is “el loco Bielsa” like? Is he really crazy?

Javi: What it is, is that he really likes football, and he lives football twenty-four hours a day. If there were more hours, he’d live them the same way.

Irene: How many prepackaged answers do you have? How many are you able to use in a single interview?

Iker: Yes, well, no, football is eleven-against-eleven, every match is its own world, there’s no such thing as a small/insignificant rival, the objective is to go day-by-day...

Irene: The rival is very complicated...

Iker: The rival is very complicated...

Irene:Irene: Ander, you’re a fan of Zaragoza.

Ander: I have Zaragoza in my heart, that’s clear, I was there for a long time... but I’m very happy at Athletic. I can’t say that I’m not happy.

Irene: You were born here, you went to Zaragoza. What are you? Basque, Aragonese?

Ander: I’m both, I consider myself...

Javi: He’s Basque-Aragonese, like the highway!

Irene: How long have you been here?

Javi: Six years.

Irene: Do you speak Basque?

Javi: “Bai.” (yes)

Irene: ( ... )

I had to laugh so much when Irene asked Iker about all the cliché/standard answers! XDDD

And then I had to die laughing at Javi's comment that Ander is like the highway. XD

Also, my Basque is even better than theirs! WHAT IS THIS?? They're LIVING there, for God's sake! XDD (I must admit, though, that Javi speaking Basque - even when he's just saying "bai" - is doing strange things to me. Nfsdkfljs.)

(Also, Unamadridista has translated the interview as well but yours is better because you correctly translated "Iker Muniain has started TEACHING Euskera classes"! GO YOU! :D)

Yeah, I'm not sure why Madridista translated it like that, because he clearly says he's going to teach - since he's been there since he was 12. I should point it out to her.

(Also, in an exclusiva of my own, I shall reveal that Javi actually says about Iker, "every time he breathes, he tweets it" - I didn't catch that until my 500th listen this weekend!)

As to Javi speaking Basque, um. I totally don't have the sound of his voice saying "bai, neska polita" on a loop in my head. Not at ALL. (Ugh, how is he so flawless and yet so adorkably awkward?) But yeah, my Basque is better than theirs and I freaking started studying it in, like, October. Honestly, boys!

And the second part!

Irene: Well, boys, there’s something that’s not so complicated, which is playing football. You guys do that pretty well, more or less. I’m going to propose that Javi put the bottle on his head, and they’re going to hit the bottle. Do you trust them?

Ander: And what if we hit him in the head?

Irene: Well, he has reflexes...

Ander: We’d lose a very important football player...

(Ander takes the first shot.)

Iker: You *have* to put that one, please!

Javi: She’s going to do it! Irene has to put the bottle on her head!

(Iker takes the next one.)

Javi: Uyyyy. No, no he didn’t hit it!

(Ander steps up again.)

Javi:(imitating a commentator) Ander’s going to take it... he’s got the ball right in front of him... Irene is between the posts with the bottle on her head... he shoots... uyyyyy! I think you have to shoot it in the air.

(Iker takes the next shot.)

Irene: Hey, I liked that!

(Irene steps up to take the last shot.)

Javi: Irene played football when she was little. At Canillas.

Irene: Thanks very much. ( ... )

The interview already looked funny, but it's even better if you know what's being said. XD

The game itself is hilarious already but Ander had to make me crack up again by saying they'd lose a very important player if they hit Javi in the head. XDDDDD AND THEN JAVI STARTED COMMENTING. AHAHAHAHAHA!!

These guys will be the death of me one day. Death by laughing. (Or death by guh. I'm not entirely sure, to be honest, there's potential for both, especially with Javi.)

Thank you SO much for translating this, you are awesome, and I shall be eternally grateful!!!! *GLOMP*
