"Alejandro se le olvidó ponerse los pantalones..."

I read this in a book today...why is there a random "le" in that sentence? Is there some rule of Spanish I do not know...I mean I can see what it means...but why the le? Is it needed?

well, 'olvidarse' is reflexive, so the 'le' is supposed to be in there. what is new to you is the 'se' which is used because of the 'accidental se' rule, which shows that alejandro forgot to put on his pants in a totally accidental manner, rather than a purposeful forgetness.
honestly, everyone knows that.
