Today I fed a yak!

Today I went to the Ohio State Fair for the first time since I was in middle school. All I can remember from the last time that I went was seeing the butter cow and an alpaca and riding on a bunch of midway rides and then the ski lift. Oh, and log rolling. That was pretty cool.

It's been close to fifteen years since I last went (and I now pause for a moment to cringe at that general realization about my age) and the fair completely met, and exceeded, my expectations. I fed a yak and saw chickens wearing chicken pants. I also pet a water buffalo and a highland cow (and a list of other varieties of cow-like animals that I can't remember the names of). I saw a fashion show, though I spent more time looking at the models than the clothes they were wearing. I also saw a dog show demonstration and a variety of completely adorable doggies running through tubes and jumping over bars. There seems to be hundreds of different things people can enter for judging and it almost starts feeling like wandering through a museum of odds & ends. I saw several wagon floats made entirely out of duct tape and I saw a high school version of the World Cup bots that were recently a big thing. I saw a cake that was designed in a cat scoop and litter box to look like a cat mess, which I found completely hilarious and creative, but the judges did not think nearly so highly of. A hen laid an egg right in front of me, but I didn't actually see it happen because someone was standing in front of me. I also saw a monkey who starred in Evan All Mighty. And the last survivor of a tribe of South Asian cannibals. Or so the man claimed. ;) The Midway was very reminiscent of the old traveling fair/carnivals, mixed in with a healthy helping of airbrushed t-shirts and hats.

Food consumed: Ribbon-cut sweet potato fries, corn nuggets, old fashioned lemonade, and peanut & chocolate-dipped frozen cheesecake on a stick.

Food skipped: Chocolate-dipped bacon on a stick, egg on a stick, deep fried ravioli on a stick, crab rangoon (at the fair? yikes.)

PS. Hi, it's been awhile. :)
