Dr. Herrmann is awesome - we switched to her (from a decidedly non-crunchy practice) for my daughter's one-year appointment and I wish we'd gone to her from the start. I know of families who go there who don't vax at all, and she was fine with it. We delayed a few/spread them out - no issues. She's awesome about not rushing to an antibiotic, and she recently gave my friend's son probiotics when she also gave an antibiotic. Also no problems on the vegan as far as I can figure - we're vegetarian and she's always been supportive. She listens, she suggests things, she's not pushy, and she backs up her suggestions with facts.
I've sent several friends to Dr. H too - love her. One thing - she's a bit...wacky. But it's a loveable wacky!
I've heard tons of rave reviews of Dr. Kute, but it is too far for me too.
Also, she wasn't on your list, but I've heard good things about Dr. Sells at Intown Pediatrics (http://www.intownpediatrics.com/). They said she was very supportive of breastfeeding and into complementary/holistic medicine. They did say she was personally pro-vax, but that she left the decision up to the parents.
I've been with Dekalb Pediatrics on Winn Way in Decatur since my son was born (over two years ago). Officially they endorse vaccinating on schedule. Unofficially, they haven't given me any guff about delaying vaccinations. I have had to sign forms for delaying them -- basic "I acknowledge the risks" forms. They don't push antibiotics, and they often will write a script but tell us that we don't need to fill it unless is gets worse or X symptom develops. I don't know their stand on veganism, but I imagine they'd be similarly reasonable. As far as I know, all the doctors are women. For well-baby visits, we see Leslie Cogburn, the Nurse Practitioner, who is fabulous, and very willing to answer my questions about each vaccination (and other questions besides).
I know they do pre-birth getting to know you sessions, but we missed ours, as my son was born the day it was scheduled for. They have a website (easily found on google).
I meant to add: My son was dairy-free for a while because he had terrible colic and took a long time to grow out of it (18 months or so for the dairy reaction) and IIRC Leslie said it really wasn't necessary for them to have milk, and didn't give me a hard time about it. That might be an indication on their stance on veganism.
Good luck finding the right doctor for your child.
We use Dr Kute and while it is a drive I love her! We have been seeing her for 5 years and have no complaints. My 3rd baby who is not quite breast fed and was premie she did suggest feeding her first foods like liver in order to help her iron and I found that gross but we are not vegan so I doubt she would make that suggestion had we been. She is very tolerant of my choices!
I would rather drive further for a doctor I know who will support me. You really don't go visit the doctor that often to be worried about a little more time in the car. If it is an emergency you drive closest. It is the well check up where you make vaccination choices etc.
we went to Dr Kute on an insurance fluke/f-up for my son's 3 day visit - i wish it wasn't an hour and 1/2 to get there or we'd go back!! very knowledgeable and had great attitude and also supported all our views/decisions so far with both our son and what we'd been doing w/ our toddler.
