Conn minimised his calendar for the day to bring up his sermon notes one last time. Later today, he had a meeting with Doctor Beckett to screen him for the ATA gene therapy and a meeting with Doctors Medel and Ovitz to discuss their wedding plans-- something he was more than a bit anxious about, since they wanted a more or less traditional Jewish ( Read more... )

John stepped into the chapel, feeling self-conscious and out-of-place. Nonetheless, he was curious to hear what the chaplain would say about the dangers of gossip and wanted to show his support for the man's actions. He nodded to a few of his people who were there and settled into a seat toward the back of the room.

Elizabeth had been raised in a church going family, but after college, as her career began to advance, she found she had less and less time for it and, more to the point, that she hardly missed attending church services. It felt a little odd, therefore, to put herself back in that frame of mind, though it was hardly the first time she had attended services for diplomacy's sake ( ... )

"Well, Doctor Weir, I'm pleased as punch to see you could take some time to come this morning," Conn said with not a hint of sarcasm. He hadn't been sure any of the expedition's leaders would actually be able to fit a service into their schedule, so to have two show up, so far, was touching. He shook her hand, then motioned inside. Elizabeth took in the 'high tech' features of the chapel and nodded her approval. There was no point in comparing this to the last place she'd attended church services (the Washington Cathedral, in Washington, DC), but she appreciated Chaplain Gilchrist's ingenuity.

She thanked him for his welcome and stepped inside, intending to walk to the front. She was putting in an appearance, after all. She paused as she passed Sheppard, however, greeting him with an approving smile.

"Good morning Major," she said. "It's good to see you here."
