I'd say stick with nvidia, whatever you do. ATI has their advantages, but drivers aint one of them.

(not to mention off-brand ATI cards are usually crap)

I'm assuming you are looking for AGP here, not PCI-express?

AGP yes. Nvidia has served me well so far. The card I currently have is an nvidia GeForce2 Ti or something like that. It's having trouble keeping up lately.

Ok, everything on the block these days will do better than a Geforce 2. It does become a matter of how much you want to spend.

You can get a BFG FX5500 from memory express for about 90 bucks. The GPU isnt much better than the old 5200, but she'll run games. Juli runs City Of Villians with a 5500.

You can get a FX6600 GT for about $170... a good midrange card.

Or a FX6800GS for about $250.

Frankly, you wont find anything higher than that in AGP anymore.

For your sort of gaming, if you've got scads of money, a 6800 is nice... but if you are on a budget, check out the 6600GT... its got most of the features of the 6800 for a decent price.

I recommend BFG as they have lifetime warranties for one...and lifetime tech support for two.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out those cards.

I guess PCI-X is the new hot thing these days. Need to get myself a new motherboard I suppose.

So, I owe you a chai, coffee, beer, or something liquid like that.

I'm going to be in Calgary on Thursday. After flying in the morning two of my friends are being sworn in and receive their Canadian citizenship so I'm attending that ceremony too. It'll be around 10:30 AM downtown Calgary (1st street NE & 4th ave I think -- where that government building is close by a Chinese mall).

I'm expecting to be done the ceremoy around noon. Are you around and up for a drink around then? I won't be able to set a more specific time when it gets to be Thursday.
