I found Crane Wife to be probably the weakest Decemberists album--ever. There are times when experimentation is good, necessary, and the saving grace of a sinking ship, but the dip into the hard rock and 13 minute track business was a flailing attempt by Meloy and left me feeling horribly disappointed and thankful that I downloaded a leak and didn't shell out the cash for the hard copy. Yet, "Crane Wife 3" is a beautiful song and "O Valencia" is catchy and deserving as the first single off the album
