Ok, I implore my friends to watch this video.

Women, this is fantastic for you and might just open your eyes a little. At times it is a little shocking, a little heartbreaking (and sometimes a little bit too sappy). It raises some incredible points, may make you realise things about yourself that you didn't and might give your Girl Power a boost ( Read more... )

Thanks Kat! That was a little stomach clenching in places, hilarious in others.

Women sure do get some odd doubts in their head, I know I've had my moments. At the end of the day people really do need to remember about VARIETY of body types. Why shouldn't what's between your legs (guys and girls) be any more dissimilar than facial features?

Ariel Levy in her book has some good answers to that question, that we're being taught our sexuality through porn, which only presents an ideal anyway.

That's so upsetting that the poor woman at the end has been basically bullied into surgery by her horrible "friends" and sister. How horrific to fel so bad about her own bits :(
It's really popular in France to have the surgery done after childbirth. Thanks Kat, interesting clip...

The attitudes that are part of this, and other abuses, are pervasive in our society. It's not about collective blame - it's about collective understanding *and* reinforcing that it's not okay.

There are a multitude of ways this is represented by plenty of guys who think they're already doing their bit on the road to equality, that they often don't even realise. Men *are* a big reason that these attitudes exist, it's not okay to just coopt out of it by thinking you're no longer part of the problem.

Also: just because there are plenty of stupid people around, you're shifting the focus of blame onto the victim. Someone going along with something because they're being told that they need to do it isn't stupidity - it's coercion. Enthusiastic participation is a far cry from any situation where someone is saying they don't feel like it, don't want it, would rather something else and then caving in and saying okay.
