THIS IS A BLAINE ANDERSON POST: NEVER BEEN KISSED VERSION

This is a post about Blaine Anderson. It was going to be about all the episodes he’s in so far, but it got to 1,500 words about “Never Been Kissed” so I thought I’d do it episode by episode instead.

DISCLAIMER: I’ve seen a lot of hate regarding Blaine recently and, well, I just kinda ( Read more... )

feeling: cynical, fandom: glee, pairing: kurt/blaine, character: blaine

One thing that seems kind of funny to me is how after the scene with Karofsky, Blaine acts surprised that Kurt is upset, "What's wrong?" Not that I think he's oblivious or insensitive or anything (although he described himself as a bit clueless in SLS).

I like his concern for Kurt and trying to find out what the matter is, but it seems like he'd realize that was kind of a traumatic scene they just went through? Maybe it was just a way for the writers to get to the line about never having been kissed.

I think it was because Blaine was trying to make light of the absolute failure of his confrontation game; Kurt kinda slumps down, more defeated than he was before (a contrast to the GET OFF HIM/STOP THIS rage of a few moments before) and I think, really, Blaine has learned at this point that there's more and that Kurt isn't telling him something. I think that his "hey, what's going on?" is less of an "what's wrong? why are you upset?" and more of a "why are you so upset? there's something you're not telling me, please don't lie."

Blaine is oblivious but I don't think he's that oblivious; he saw something more was hurting his friend and he wanted to see what it was. It might have sounded light or a little weird, but that's just how I see it. It also tied in quite well with the NBK storyline, of course, haha :D

That's true. I liked his humorous line about Dave not coming out any time soon.

It just seems that since the intervention pretty much backfired, now Kurt might have to deal with even more from Karofsky, so I could imagine him feeling upset by that. Blaine sort of seems like, "Well, we tried." But maybe he sees that Kurt is not afraid to stick up for himself and isn't as worried.

I think he's seeing Kurt's courage now, yeah. It's easy to forget that the first time Blaine met Kurt the other boy broke down in front of him - he probably didn't expect such a burst of courage out of the boy, not at all. So I think that while he expected Kurt to be upset, and he knew there was more, he was also a little comforted by the strength he saw displayed too. I also think that Blaine expects that they can try again - as though trying and trying and trying will somehow make the words work on David.

THIS, all of this.

To me the most revealing moment is the way Blaine handles the immediate aftermath of Karofsky. He jokes, tries to break the tension, 'well he's not coming out anytime soon', and clearly is not aware of the extent of the problem. That's why he's so shocked by Kurt's tears. He's witness to one violent outburst, and can't measure them against the many. It's just not in his nature.

I am so curious as to how he'd react in Karofsky's presence after this lapse of so many months.

Oh, I agree so, so much. Blaine, at this point, just doesn't get that this is normal, that he should have expected this - and when it all becomes to much for Kurt and he has that breakdown again... I think it kinda sinks in for a moment. Watching Blaine's face, he purses his lips, pauses, thinks, before trying to lighten it again - distracting Kurt from it.

My thoughts exactly. Let's see how you handle it now, Blaine, my interesting darling.

Yeah, I'm really curious to hear his thoughts on the transfer. I assume he and Kurt will have to discuss Karofsky. Their only other mention of him so far has been the stuff in BIOTA, and Blaine knows that he threatened Kurt's life right? I don't remember.

I don't think it's been explicitly mentioned that Blaine is aware of the death threat.

I can't deal with the Blaine hate, I really can't. I just fundamentally don't understand where any of it is coming from and so I try to ignore it as much as possible.

Aside from that I just wanted to "THIS" your comments :D.

SAME HERE. I had a total rage-y meltdown on Plurk before I decided to be eloquent and discuss my Blaine love in a natural and regulated fashion. Me gusta!

I'm glad you agree :D

Amen Amen!! All this Blaine hate is ridiculous, and this little review of NBK proves it. The boy gives his number to a kid he knows absolutely nothing about and SKIPS SCHOOL to help this same kid help out another kid he knows absolutely nothing about--one who's a bully, at that.

I can't understand how people can think he's a douche or an asshole when he's the only character on this show that actively helps people with no thought to how it might benefit himself. His only crime, as far as I'm concerned, is being a sixteen-year-old who tries too hard to be mature in his attempts to compensate for a distant father.

Oh, yes, I completely neglected to mention the school-skipping and casually driving two hours (consistency, plz, glee!) to see Kurt. But even though he is helping Kurt he is helping - or trying to help - David just as much and that speaks so much about who Blaine is.

I love him. He's human, he's sixteen, he's trying to be brave and strong but, hey, he cracks sometimes. Sue him!

Exactly. :) He's much better at handling life than a lot of the ND kids!

So can this comm just make an anthology of posts like this or what. How many others are making wonderful posts like these? /slowly raises hand

Yes to this post. I really don't understand how not fighting against Karofsky = coward. Well, yes, Blaine may have admitted how he ran away from his old school, and it's quite obvious that he views it as cowardice, but still. His stance when Karofsky had him up the fence was more like, "Whoa, hold on, I don't mean any harm." Like aelora said, he seems more like a pacifist than anything.

And Blaine hate? No me gusta. And I don't understand sometimes how people think he's such a bad person. I found most of the things people use against him as justifiable actions given the situation (i.e., BIOTA fight, bad advice) and well, it's not as if he's not a teenager or anything right?

I wish I knew! I want to stalk all the Blaine-meta. I love me some Blaine meta. I am meta-ing on scenes that Blaine isn't present in hi, episode seven.

I wish we knew more about Blaine's bullying history - it'd make understanding him so much easier. I always naturally assumed that his bullying was more verbal/vandalism than what Kurt's suffered, so... Yeah. Basically what aelora said, that angel.

Haha, yes. Oh, man, I am going to write SO MUCH about Blame it. I can't even.

It's always so interesting to read them all, methinks. Even if 100% of the time I'm like "Yes, this, I AGREE." how do you even

Me too, man. I was more glad than probably appropriate when that little tidbit about his relationship with his father came out, and I just need some more Blaine backstory. REALLY.

BIOTA, for all it's drawbacks, had that golden quote from Blaine during the coffee shop fight with Kurt, and I just. Literally want to take it apart and chew thoroughly for all it's worth because I thought it revealed a lot about him.

YEAH. And then sometimes you think OH, I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT and you go back and rewatch and it's like. Oh, oh BLAINE oh. And it hurts but it's so goood....

I had a little fangirl fit, then I was like YES HEADCANON WAS RIGHT. Then I realised all the pain and the hurt and Burt and yeah. THAT SCENE. FJSKDG.

Gosh, yes, oh my gosh. I had a chat with a friend about that scene earlier and there's just so much so say, so much under it that it is like a never ending essay.
