This is a post about Blaine Anderson. It was going to be about all the episodes he’s in so far, but it got to 1,500 words about “Never Been Kissed” so I thought I’d do it episode by episode instead.

How aware do you think Blaine was of Kurt being a spy and how much did that influence how he acted on the stairs and in his "Teenage Dream" performance?

When I first saw it I just took it at face value, that Blaine was enchanted by the new kid and whisked him off to sing to him. But I guess maybe if he knew he was a spy he was playing up his flirtiness, having a little fun showing off the Warblers and Dalton. But I still like to believe he was genuinely drawn to and intrigued by Kurt himself and singing with feeling to him. Like you mentioned, it seems that Blaine sensed there was more going on with Kurt than just Glee club spying.

I think it was totally obvious. I mean, I think with a private academy like Dalton you turn up in your uniform on the first day or you get, like, a demerit or something. It would have been easy to pass off Kurt's lack of nerves as, like, new kid fever, but I think he was just an obvious spy, lack of uniform and all.

I think Blaine was drawn to Kurt in a "this boy is cute and I am going to slo-mo run down a hallway with him", but there was also that degree of "we gotta show off to the competition now" thing. Blaine does this soft of awkward smirky nod to Kurt at the end of the number and you can either see that as him being like "oh, hey, I can be your teenage dream ;)" in a flirty way, or more of a "this is how awesome we are, can you take us?" kind of way.

I think it was a mixture of, like, You're adorable but you're a spy and we've got to show you what we've got. It wasn't until they actually sat down and talked that more came of it.

I never really got the Blaine hate. You did some very nice meta and I love the translations you put in. You helped me step away from seeing the encounter through Kurt's perspective and onto a more even footing

I honestly avoid looking for any Blaine hate because it makes no sense to me (we have other characters that we still like who lie/cheat/belittle, but God forbid someone give out bad advice whilst not having all the information). I actually like that Blaine tends to not give perfect advice, it makes him a teenager and real. I don't know about you but when I look back on the advice I gave at 17 I don't think "Gosh, I was really mature", it's more like "Wow...I really didn't have all the cards then." Blaine is still young but he does well with what he has. Furthermore, the fact that he was willing to back Kurt up when Will, an adult, completely floundered and dropped the ball is rather telling.

As for the actual confrontation, I never saw Blaine not shoving back as a weakness. His hands go up, he's saying "Hey, alright, I'm not here to attack you, just relax" and believe me, with someone as confused and angry as Karofsky it is the best stance to take. Imagine provoking that level of self-hatred further! It wouldn't end well. I actually

Love these posts on Blaine! I'm actually kinda amazed that some people think he's a douche or he's boring or whatever, because I can't see that at all. And I'm paying pretty close attention to him, I assure you! :-P

Just wanted to echo the love for the Kurt/Blaine confronting scene with Karofsky. I ADORE that scene, for three different reasons:

1) Teamwork, yays! Kurt and Blaine have just met, and already they've got each other's backs. That speaks of the level of the chemistry that they have. Obviously there was a connection between them from the start.
2) When Karofsky slams Blaine back, Blaine puts his hands up in a surrender-type gesture, as if to say, "I don't want to fight you". That's 'cause Blaine's a lover, not a fighter. :-P
3) I love that Kurt shoves Karofsky off Blaine. As I said before, Kurt and Blaine have just met, but already they're willing to get into scuffles to protect each other. ♥

Seriously, how can people not love Klaine? Or Blaine himself? It boggles the mind!

I agree with most of this! The only thing I read a little differently was the confrontation with Dave. When Karofsky pushes Blaine back, I didn't take him not pushing back as weakness. He didn't let any fear on his face (though he probably was a little) and put his hands up in what I saw as a way of saying relax, showing Dave that he wasn't a threat. So, not backing down, but trying not to put Karofsky more on the offensive than he already was.

Anyway, that's just how I saw it! I can see your interpretation as well, though. Thanks for writing this, I really enjoyed this, and I'm off to read the rest now!
