Be careful about the extent to which you trust these. Take the infamous coffee example often touted (a woman spilled hot coffee on herself, sued because the coffee was hot, not the same one as this "Stella" I don't think)), it sounds insane, but the case was very legitimate. McDonalds had made it a policy to keep the coffee at an absurdly high temperature because it was slightly cheaper, the coffee had to be replaced less often. It was being severed at a temperature well above industry standards, and the lids were known to be faulty, and internal documents that got leaked showed at least one McDonalds lawyer had said beforehand they'd be genuinely legally to blame if someone was seriously injured, which was inevitable, but McDonalds decided to ignore this or decided the cost savings outweighed the likely legal penalties. The woman suffered third degree burns all over her chest, stomach, genitals, and thighs (she wasn't naked or something btw). It's the quintessential "insane lawsuit" story, but it was perfectly reasonable.

I don't tihnk her lawsuit was all that insane, if the coffee is hot enough to like scar you for life, they shouldn't be serving it. But the rest of these are like... wow. It's like I bought Tim Hortons ground coffee in a tin, made it myself too hot, and spilt it on my and scarred myself, then tried to sue Tim Horton's for not telling me to make the coffee so hot. You know? Anyways, yeah, that other woman sounds more legit than that ;)

Ohh... that's interesting information. When I first heard the story I was thinking how amazing this woman's lawyer must have been to somehow take an abscurd case as "this woman spilt coffee on her while she was driving and it was hot and ruined her sunday dress or something" and use that to defeat a team of Mcdonald's lawyers and win like a billion dollars. Things makes alot more sense now that I've read what you've written.

Not that it makes it any better, it's still sad, but in a different way.
