Sounds like you are running into something similar to Jevon's Paradox, only from the flip side.

I got a mailing scale with 0.1 oz accuracy, weighs up to 30 lbs. I paid $30 for it on eBay

Not a bad thought. It depends on if I want to keep playing with this pricing structure. I think I do, as it's fairly interesting. However, it is a bit distracting from my "real" work.

I suppose I could just blindly follow one path or the other. But that's no fun.

Well, I'm thinking that if I'm not allowed to have a dog in the apartment, they're not going to be cool with a cow.
