live report: UnsraW @ London Scala, Nov 22/10

Nov 24, 2010 17:59

I haven't seen (or really thought about) UnsraW since I last saw them in... what was it? 2008? with deadtree and notafanboy in the horrible soundbox of Holiday Nagoya. Both times I saw them previously they were missing Yuuki due to his weird illness... TB or whatever it was. The UnsraW I saw on Monday evening was a whole different beast, obviously with Yuuki there. Oh yeah, I remember that super creepy live lol
By the way I don't want to hear from you or anyone else for that matter about being too old for the scene! >;O Anyway isn't it kinda natural that at first you are trying everything new, but after a while settle with a few favorites that stay with you for years? After all I think any genre is 99% crap and then there is that magical 1% that strikes a chord ;)

Haha, it was super creepy, wasn't it? This was much better.
Yeah, I think we're both in the old category by now, lol. And the VK genre, more than some others, is full of recyclable crap, so that 1% counts for a lot. My pool of VK music I listen to just shrunk down about 33% now that D'espairs is on hiatus. :( :( :( It seems like a lot of those fans at the UnsraW gig are in really into the whole indies scene, whereas at Diru/Despa show you get a larger/wider variety of audience.

Btw, have you moved since last Christmas? I want to send you a card or something again, but I don't know if your last address is still valid!

Maybe I was even too optimistic when I said 1% lol But I agree, I think Despa/Dir crowd generally is more into rock/metal music rather than exclusively vk, especially indies part of it. *sigh* I hope Hizumi will get better soon and they will be back. I am going to miss them ;(
No, I have the same address. PM me your address in London, I want to send you a Christmas card too ;)

Yeah, that's exactly it-- most Dir/Despa fans are people who aren't all that exclusively into VK... there's lots of just general rock fans. I miss Despa already :(

I'll send you my address in just a sec!

It still seems quite weird to me how fast I grew out of the VK fandom though, thinking about how much energy I put in it (not in general, but for certain bands)! And now it just holds no identification value anymore at all, and I'm like, you spent so many years on that and it's simply gone, huh.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's been more gradual than sudden for me, but I think at a certain point, you just stop wanting to give it emotional commitment and you know better than to identify yourself by the scene.

It's been gradual for me too, just in retrospect it seems to have happened really fast. I guess the thing is that I maybe compensated for something when I was so much into it, too, and when I didn't have to anymore it just faded. On the one hand I sometimes feel really foolish for that, on the other hand I tell myself I shouldn't, because it was fun and I loved it while it lasted.
Haha oh psychology.

I kind of know what you mean by compensation. It's something to hold onto when you don't want to deal with whatever shit in your life, but eventually you do learn to deal. However, that doesn't mean mean that we didn't get genuine fun out of it. :) I know a lot of people are embarrassed by old stuff they were into, but I don't think I've anything to be shamed about.

I appreciate the good times I got out of it, though these days, the VK bands I do listen to I treat mostly the same as every other band I like that I listen to. If that makes sense, lol.
