Sarah Palin's speech at the RNC Convention

Sep 04, 2008 01:52

I watched Pres. Bush's speech yesterday, as well as former Sen. Thompson's: both decent speeches.

Tonight I watched Gov. Palin's speech.

Never in my life have I ever found a vice presidential candidate to be in any way politically exciting.

I'm excited about this v.p. candidate.

I find her choice to have a special-needs baby and her subsequent choice to not take care of it rather morally abhorrent, personally. When you chose to have a baby, that baby becomes your number one priority. Plenty of people manage to juggle jobs and childcare, mostly because they have to, but the 24-7 nature of the campaign trail does not afford the kind of time that is required to care for any infant, much less one with Down's.

If she can't keep the most basic human commitments to her own infant, how can we expect her to keep commitments to her country?

Would you feel the same way if she were a man who had a baby with Downs Syndrome?

It does smack of a double standard, so I don't think that's what she means.

I think that since she's been a mother nearly as long as little_e has been alive, she may have a better idea of what her commitments and abilities are, and how to balance them.

She's really the only one who can say for sure, but what else could she mean? I seriously doubt this would be such an issue if she were a man.

Probably so. I'm sure the father of her children does, as well. I am thinking that he is going to be taking care of biz while she is campaigning and not able to be there herself.

i'm of two minds - as the gov of alaska, i'm sure she's qualified for the job. as someone who wants to overturn roe v wade... i don't want her near my reproductive rights with a ten-foot pole!

i happen to like my reproductive rights, and i want to protect them jealousy. i'd also like to have competent leaders in office. it's a shame the two seem to be diametrically opposed ideals at this point in time.

A couple of years down the line, I still have goosebumps over Sarah Palin. She got a raw deal from the MSM, the McCain handlers, and would have been a far better POTUS than the one we got now.

Just saying...
