Well, more relieved than actually shocked. This was a long time coming; I learned that it's very important than an untenured FSO (i.e., still on probation) not go on military leave during his probationary period as State's HR system gets discombobulated and attempts to spit out the officer.
It apparently attempted to do the same to one of my classmates who was in Iraq at the same time I was, assigned to the CPA. We're both a promotion behind our peers now.
