I simply do not understand how peanut butter and JAM (that is what 'jelly' actually means) is a staple sandwich ingredient! Like how, say, CHEESE is a staple, or ham, or perhaps cheese AND ham (although that is somewhat CONTINENTAL mes amis ( Read more... )

I never saw the appeal until I moved to USAtralia, where they have thrown off the shackles of oppressive Great Britain and turned blindly to North American culture. Sorry, "culture".

And now?

Now I have regularly peanut butter and raspberry jam on toast for breakfast, or evening snack, or random weekend comfort food... I use the peanut butter as a tasty alternative to butter/margarine (it started when I was vegan) and I love the contrast of salty peanut butter with sweet jam. Also nuts are a GOOD FAT as opposed to many other fats, so it's actually not unhealthy. Of course, I am not using the all-american SKIPPY type brands, but healthfood brands made with peanuts only.

That said, I agree that the real PNB-jelly-on-wonderbread is probably revolting in so many ways...

Linseed sunflower seed almond all ground up into sprinkly format! when I was vegan it was a protein booster...
