Brap brap!

After a grillion years, I have finally got myself a Young Persons Phone (HTC Wildfire). So far I have charged it, switched it on, got a bit scared, did the Young Persons Phone equivalent of MAVIS BEACON TYPING TUTOR, and then got even more scared, told it where to find my Twitter account, and then left it behind whilst I went to work ( Read more... )

ZOOBORNS! Also I use tweetdeck for twitter, but there are lots of twitter apps, touch calendar for talking to my google calendar, newsrob for reading rss feeds, lindamanager for poking about the file system (aka re-reading downloaded PDFs), weatherbug for weather stuff.

Ooh yes, pdf reader, one of those would be good. I must get the KNITTING app too! Also also, I want to be able to hold up my phone up to QR codes and then for things to happen, do you know how I do that? Yaaaaaay this is so much fun!

(I couldn't connect to my wireless this morning, but I suspect the actual computer can't as well. I may have to fork out for a plusnet router, which is kind of annoying).

Google Goggles scans QR codes, and normal barcodes, and can do many other strange things besides.

There is Drop 7! Which I found pretty great, though a little crashy. It is very similar to (but not exactly the same as, and in my opinion more fun than) the web game Chain Factor. It is made by Area/Code, who are lovely (they have since been bought by Zynga and are now called Zynga New York but don't let that make you assume that Drop 7 is a typical Zynga-y game).

(I do not have a Young Person's Phone, mind, and I only know about Drop 7 because people in the office played it so much that I eventually made Kevan buy it and let me play it on his phone.)

I've not played Chain Factor, but I can guess it involves... chaining things? Like um Pokemon Trozei? #noideatbh - but all this is good to know!

I can't wait to get on Foursquare/Gowalla and be mayoress of STUFF! Apparently you can go to the National Gallery and check in at "the horsey", I can't wait!

It's a numbersy puzzley game, nothing like Tetris in terms of rules but in that same broad category of "drop stuff into a grid and things happen in response".

conquest (risk clone)
worms
scrabble (only d/led two days ago)

the scrappy dictionary thing is good too, in that it's not as heavy as an paper dictionary, but it's not Official...

oh yes, tunein radio which burkesworkes mentions is also good, particularly for listening to 6music in the bath (with additional speakers, not headphones)

Yeah, some sort of PROPER dictionary app is urgent and key, and I am willing to learn how to code in order to get it. I'm pretty sure the official word list is out there in a big ole plain text zip somewhere.
