Thomas John Harmon-davis


POUGHKEEPSIE Thomas Davis, a resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away on October 2, 2008 after suffering a major stroke at Albany Medical Center, he was 60 years old. Tom was born in Astoria, New York on January 30, 1948 to Elizabeth Price and Thomas Joseph Davis. Tom is survived by his wife, Deborah Harmon, his daughter, Christina Davis of New Jersey, his step-children, Heather Van Gorder of Virginia, Stacey Van Gorder of New Jersey, and the children of his heart, Heather Marie Schweitzman and Fred Korman. Tom was the proud grandfather of Ethan Van Gorder, Ava Van Gorder and Wesley Leung. Survivors also include his sister Jane and her husband, Peter Price of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews. Tom was a celebrated Professor of Philosophy for 28 years at SUNY Ulster. A full obituary will follow in this week's paper. A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ's Episcopal Church, 20 Carroll Street, Poughkeepsie, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008 with a reception following in the Newton Community Room. Childcare will be provided. A private burial will be held for the family at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, people are asked to donate to the charity of their choice or the Tom Davis Scholarship Fund at Ulster Community College, Stone Ridge, NY 12484.
