this isn't directed at anybody in particular but i seem to have been involved in a number of discussions lately where i've been on perhaps the less popular side of a debate. and thinking about it there are a number of opinions i hold that are apparently not politically correct or widely supported.

I just re-read my comment. I'm a conservative. I... I don't know what to say. When did this happen?

The degree to which I like you remains unchanged :-) I agree with a fair chunk of this, but not with other parts... I am, for instance, pro-abortion but anti-death penalty. I am not pro a united Ireland, unless a referendum of the populace of Northern Ireland supports one. I agree with the aboliton of the monarchy, but utterly oppose ID cards.

Your paragraph on science is confused at best. Science does indeed frequently get things wrong; however, the scientific method should always be followed when evaluating evidence, and scepticism is utterly intrinsic to this methodology (I suspect this is the bit that you do not understand). There are not "other ways of knowing". That's just horseshit. There plenty of dogmatic figures within the scientific community, and that should always be challenged, but the thing about science is that it is overwhelmingly more right than it is wrong, and if mistakes are made, it (unlike most religion or other superstitious nonsense) is self-correcting.
