And there is this whole mythological thing about how they sing every night and this somehow protects/bolsters the Kingdom - and a lot of warbling about the Songstress:King companionship and counterpart. Death's voice goes straight to your brain, and he can command people with it if he wants to. It's been described in canon as "a voice with all the warmth and colour of an iceberg", "like an anvil being hit with a small lead hammer", "as hollow as a cave, as dense as a neutron star", "like the collapse of undersea chasms", "like the closing of crypt doors"... Okay, I'm going to stop here before I c/p half the Discworld series.
