I've been listening to Iron Maiden's new album. It's grown on me a little. It's reasonably
moderate .. reasonable continual. . long songs.. talking of war, and destruction, and life,
and so forth .. :)
I like this song at the moment. It's strange that feeling, when days go on for a long long
time and it feels like it's only the adrenaline still keeping you going. Occasionally there
are a few slips - feelings of losing control - but in the end - you just keep pushing forward
because you know as people start to slip, if you slip as well, then you're going to just get
drowned, and be unable to do anything. It's like accepting your own death is inevitable. It
is pretty hard to do -
But you go off to war. And you feel all high, and mighty. And then the torment begins. The
bickering, the argueing. The shameless accusations of betrayal. The condescending vices of
inaptitude. And you can't listen. You can't feel it. You just need to go on. You can't take
all the shit. So you keep pushing. And you keep pushing on with so much determination that you
feel like you're bulletproof. Until you see people shivering with fear. Losing the plot, going
crazy. Like blind rats, they scounge the bottom of the floor .. convulsing in their unwillingness
to be a part of what .. you soon discover .. is a game where someone has to die .. where death is
inevitable. If not your own, then others..
And the feeling of death .. and the awareness of life. It hits, like a dagger to the heart. And
the emotional pain it's overwhelming. And you so don't look inside. You just look outside, at
what is happening. And how to make the most of the situation.
But then you realise you're still alive. And you can't believe your eyes. You find it hard to face
the world. You lost hope in God, ... and yet you've been facing it again and again .. just missing
your belief in the world. And so you pray to God. You feel thankful for the life you have in front
of you. That somehow in spite of all the war, all the merciless killing, all the injustice in the
world somehow you're still going. And you feel like nothing can stop you ..
Until you see people dying.. and the pain so great. You feel like maybe you're dying. And you look
inside... and you realise that you are dying. . that they are dying .. we are all dying .. and that's
just how life goes.
