Jongdae-centric
Just another day in the life of the band members of A Plus.
Jongdae groans when he falls to the floor with a loud thud and he would have just gotten back to sleep on the floor if their manager wasn’t threatening to not feed him for the whole day. Jongdae scrambles to his feet, rubbing his tailbone where it hurt most from contact with the floor and turning to stare at Minseok but Jongdae is only greeted with his back as he leaves the room. Chanyeol comes into the room the moment Minseok leaves, with the toothbrush in his mouth, clad only in a towel around his waist.
“The shower’s yours,” Chanyeol says, his words muffled by the toothbrush and Jongdae grimaces at all the toothpaste that flies out of his mouth when he speaks.
With a sigh, Jongdae grabs his towel hanging at the back of the door and goes to have his shower. He can smell the bitter scent of roasted coffee beans and he knows that it must have been Minseok. There’s also the scent of something sweet in the air but he can’t quite place it but it must mean Yixing is cooking them breakfast; he is the unofficial cook in the house. He contemplates having breakfast first but then Minseok might threaten to leave for their show without waiting for Jongdae to shower so Jongdae forgets about breakfast and walks towards the toilet.
The mirror is fogged and Jongdae curses silently at Chanyeol for not even wiping the steam first but Jongdae is in too much of a hurry to appreciate his good looks today. He hangs his towel on the rack and undresses, squeezing some toothpaste on his toothbrush before taking it with him into the small space at the end they call a sorry excuse of a shower. Jongdae knows that it is a bad habit, to brush his teeth while the shower is running but it saves time and the bill might be a little higher again this month but Minseok has gotten them more gigs, they’re performing almost every evening at Lotte now instead of that dingy club at Hongdae. It really is a blessing for their band to get Minseok as their manager; he’s done so much to help the band create a name for themselves.
Jongdae washes in a hurry, really thankful they decided to invest in a better water heater because now Chanyeol doesn’t end up using all the hot water before it is his turn to shower. He uses the bar soap for both his hair and body-they’ve run out of shampoo-and he knows he’ll regret it later because the soap will make his hair dry and coarse to the touch. He almost crashes into Chanyeol when he walks out of the toilet just as Chanyeol is walking down the hallway towards the kitchen.
“Hey, you’re not shaving today?” Chanyeol asks and Jongdae curses, rushing back into the toilet to shave the beginning dark shadows of a moustache and beard. He envies Minseok who doesn’t have trouble to look ten years younger than his age everyday while here Jongdae is struggling with a shaver. Electronic shavers are a little out of their budget so they buy disposable plastic ones and share the packet. Jongdae doesn’t cut himself today and the day is looking better already.
He can hear Chanyeol making a ruckus in the kitchen and Minseok groaning telling him to shut the fuck up so early in the morning when he tries to fit his legs into his one-size too small leather pants. They have an outdoor gig for a youth event at Busan and Jongdae knows he’ll regret his wardrobe choice later, especially with the hot summer air but anything for the fans. Although he’s not so sure that people in Busan has heard of them, but they definitely will after today’s performance.
Jongdae makes it to the kitchen in time for the last two pancakes just before Chanyeol snatches them up and he can see that Chanyeol wants to fight him for it but Yixing’s piercing gaze has Chanyeol retreating and slumping back against his chair.
“You already had two Yeol, don’t be greedy,” Yixing chastises, collecting the dirty cutleries and dumping them into the sink. They don’t wash their dishes till they get home which is a bad idea since they’re always drained and tired but the good part is if you’re lucky and win the scissors-paper-stone, you don’t have to do it. It’s a chance Jongdae likes to take if it means he can get out of washing his dishes in the morning. He doesn’t know why they can’t just use disposables when they know every one of them is a lazy ass. This is one more thing that Jongdae wouldn’t mind spending a little bit more on.
“Hurry up Jongdae, I want an early start in case there’s traffic later,” Minseok says from behind his phone as he sips his coffee.
Jongdae licks his lips, itching for a cup too but he knows Minseok will never share. Their manager only makes one cup each morning for himself and he tolerates everything else but anyone drinking his stash of coffee. Jongdae quickly swallows down his pancakes; he can tell Yixing used a bit more sugar and milk this time probably to compensate for the lack of syrup or jam. Sometimes, Jongdae is tired living like this, having to divide and save every penny but when he gets on stage and the adrenaline rush kicks in, Jongdae knows that there’s nothing else he’d rather do but perform with his band.
They lug their instruments with them to Minseok’s car. Minseok always drives and Chanyeol sits with him in the shotgun seat. Chanyeol would have preferred to play his own drums but they don’t have the proper transportation for it so he always ends up playing on whatever the organisers provide. It is a disadvantage for them because venue provided equipment are usually faulty or produce notes that is a little off and they also can’t have their band name on drum decals; that would definitely help a little more with their popularity.
Jongdae puts on his headphones, the songs they will be performing already in a playlist on his phone. It helps him to focus better on the day of shows so that he doesn’t forget the songs they’re playing since they perform mostly originals and Yixing and Chanyeol both have the habit of changing up their set lists. His phone doesn’t leave much room for new songs and he usually have to delete things to fit in new songs; he would love to get an mp3 player but that’s something he has to put on hold for now.
He looks up to see Chanyeol talking to Minseok and that is why he always sits in front. Minseok needs company, especially for long distance drives and Chanyeol is the only one who can’t stop talking even when no one seems to be paying attention, but Jongdae knows that Minseok appreciates the chatter as it keeps him awake to get them to their destinations safely. Beside him, Yixing has a notebook out, humming to himself, probably trying to write more songs for the band. Jongdae closes his eyes, and he leans his head back, trying to catch up on his interrupted sleep to the sound of his own voice.
