anybody have some recommendations fer a first-time computer buyer? i was thinking about getting a desktop...preferably hp, gateway, dell, or sony. i just want it to do basic crap. help...

Avoid Gateway and HP... Sony makes some nice computers. Dell's are pretty cheap and not too shabby. The computer that Sarah and I have was custom built by Computer Renaissance and it's pretty bitchin' (and was pretty inexpensive).

I am partail to Macs. I love mine. I have no problems with mine. They have an I MAC for desktop. Check Mac Mall or PC Mall on line. They usually have really good deals.

I 2nd this motion. If you don't mind spending just a little bit more. Then MAC is the way to go. The never have any problems and most computer programs have a MAC version. The all come with iLife programs suit which is more than likely all you'll need. Great for pictures and surfing the web and super secure. Good coustomer service as well.

i have an HP and i love it

i also got a powerbook [MAC] and its a little better for a more experienced user
