Would anyone know if by ‘haggling’ over a redundancy package, I’m jeopardising my position at all?
I would like my employers to offer slightly more than what they’ve initially offered as part of the enhanced redundancy package, enough to cover me for twelve months… Basically, I’m slightly short of that, and for the sake of a £2000, I’d like to push ( Read more... )

i think there is a certain amount by law they offer you depending on how long your service to them is and what your salary is.

Yes, that's right. I got given an initial offer, doubled if I sign a compromise agreement - so that I don't sue them later - but I'd like to go up from there. I don't want them to go back on their word if I make steps to negotiate a slightly larger offer though...

Is there a trade union rep at your place? Even if you are not a member you can still ask them for advice.

Unfortunately not... The only people here who have a union are the editors (NUJ).
