i dont think necessarily that a normal person would be able to let it go~I think normal is that it should hurt and make you sad if you really do care~obviously you do. That old cheesy saying about when you love something let it go and if it comes back to you then it was yours and so on~maybe just let her know that you have let her go but you did it out of love so that she could respect you when things settle down and realize that you did it for her and that you want her back when she is ready. IF she reads your journal then she would know how you feel and how sincere and wonderful you are. There are not many guys out there that speak from the heart as you do.
Whoever that is, is right. There are not many guys like that, and she was lucky to have found you. The fact that it hurt, shows you really did care for her. She won't forget it either. If normal people would let it go, I am def. not normal. You're a great guy nathan, and God has your perfect match waiting. Remember that, it helps me on my bad days maybe it'll help you too.
I'm not of Age or Experience to say this but When someone is important to you and they leave you when your most attracted or emotionally in sinct ;_;. You can't forget about them there's no way ;_;. But you will move on in hope that paths will meet once again. I'm not preaching to you something You don't already know. I'm not the one to judge whether I've felt what you feel but I can honestly say I've come close enough to understand. Peace man =).
