Oh jesus, even, like, the fifth time around, and I'm thinking I know which quote I want to pull out and point to and go yes, that, and then I find another one I've overlooked, like this:

...pulling him into something that might have been an embrace three days or six months or 12 years ago but probably never was.

And that's the part that probably hurts the most for Tony, not just what's happening in his present, but the violation, of sorts, of his past, of all the times he consider something true or right or good.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Which, I'm guessing, was the point.

Yes, indeed, it was so totally the point that I can't even. I. Just. Yeah. That.

And thanks for writing it. Because it's amazing writing and horrid subject matter and what goes on in Tony's head is just so realistic. The counting. But ...

"That's what I thought, Tony"

God, I just want to go sit on the floor in the corner of my closet with the door closed and the light off.

Am I going to have to take away your thanks-for-nothing credit?

I played a VITAL ROLE. (I feel I could have run a better campaign though. "People for a cum-free chest cavity!" There could have been buttons.)

In all seriousness, I do still love this a lot. So obsessive, that tight focus of fear, cut through with this stark clarity and determination.

I WOULD WEAR THAT BUTTON.

Also, I am pleased that this fic does not move you to death threats.

Ugh. This is just despicably pitch perfect for this scene. You've got this amazing sense of timing down, and where a lesser writer would have made this seem cracktastic and completely unbelievable, you've made it heartbreaking and every reason why this pairing's just plain wrong. I love how it's all by the numbers, how Tony's desperation comes completely out of a ticking clock, a countdown, and yet it's made completely crystal clear that this is what Obidiah thinks of Tony- a hedonistic goose with the golden egg that'll die happy as long as he gets to come first. I'll be perfectly honest with you, this is so exquisitely detailed that a sick, sick part of me that subconsciously loves watching excruciating things fully expects this to be a deleted scene on the DVD.

You've pretty much just blindsided me with an emotional brick to the face and all I can think is simply about how much I want more. Guh.

"Despicably pitch perfect" is pretty much the best feedback for this sort of fic ever. So, yes, thank you. I. Um. Yeah.
