I live in VA beach myself, and theres tons of opportunities here. But, if your talking about the boodocks of Virginia Tech down in Blacksburg.... yeah. Most of the outskirt colleges are remote and are purely college towns.
well actually i was looking in the VA Beach-Hampton Roads-Tidewater area, my best friend lives in Newport News. I went down a few times to visit and look for work but through some combination of alcohol, laziness, and people wanting local candidates I didn't have much luck. The only other place in VA i'd consider living/working in is Charlottesville since I went to school there and absolutely love it.
oh its not that difficult my friend. There are a ton of jobs, its all a matter of actually getting them to call you back. Depends on the season you go too. Anytime after august 23rd, getting a job seems easier, because everyones going back to school on that day, but after june 13th... its hell because all the highschoolers get out.
But yeah, thats the region I live in. Newport news is around 20 minutes away from me. Also depends what your looking for. I'm fairly new to the job world, so I'm rather limited.
My sister lives in Charlotsville. That place is rather good. UVA is a fairly well renouned school, and the Cavileers rock.
Let me know if you ever do consider the move. I might be moving myself soonish, and it would be nice to meet another old school HI'er before I leave :P
