Help: couch shopping

Sep 23, 2008 18:11

I've been cleared to do stairs! Which means the bed can move back to the bedroom, instead of being next to the front door.

Yes, yesterday's doctor's appointment went well, the Xrays looked good, but I've got another 5 weeks (!) of keeping my weight off it. I don't understand that conflict, but anyway...My life will continue unchanged: keeping my foot elevated, and having it swell up every time I stand up. :-/

So, I want both to have both the privacy of a bedroom with a real door, and a comfy couch in the living room where I can stretch out & put my leg up during the day.

My question is:
How can I find a couch that is both long enough for me and small enough to fit through the door of this odd-shaped houselet?

Also, I seem to recall someone saying that IKEA sold build-your-own furniture: Is this true, and is is worth the prices they ask? And are there other quality build-your-own places? And how hard is it to build a sofa? I don't know how I feel about futons..If I'm sitting on it most of the day, there may not be adequate padding. But they are easy to transport & assemble.

Please give me any advice you can, in comments or via email. I'm not up to shopping around for this sort of thing, nor transporting something I find in Craigslist only to find it doesn't go through the doorway. Thanks!!

advice, ankle
