psongster pointed out that Bowl and Board has a couch that may well satisfy your constraints. Check out http://www.bowlandboard.com/shop/category.asp?catid=126.

Glad you can do stairs, but sorry that your life must continue otherwise unchanged :-{.

Thanks! I think I prefer the brown 'leaf' colored one...the white version would _not_ go well with having a black cat & kids around! Also, I see they have 2 stores within my range, too.

My mother has a line on a freebie couch...I gave her door measurements last night, and she'll go back & look at it to see if it'll fit in today. And, if it'll fit, she'll bring it out here this weekend after the rain. Sounds like a suitable solution, and my impression from what she said is that it's in good shape. (Never look a gift couch in the...?!)

Even so, M seems to be considering buying something new. That would take time & planning & all, so maybe the freebie could tide me over until that happens.

I personally looked into buying one of the ones from bowl and board last year. There are a few drawbacks which left me ultimately deciding against them. 1) I couldn't get clear answers from anybody at the store. 2) while the back and arms are removable, it's only by the factory sent guy who comes and assembles it, then you have to schedule any disassembly/reassembly when moving.
