I saw the 5th movie last night, and Neville is turning out to be quite the charming young man. He will do DH justice when its turn comes around, I think.

I know what you mean a little bit about the epilogue. There was a lot of names and not long to sort them out. But Teddy is in there, and Neville too. Maybe you should go back and read it again? ;)

Yes, I was probably coming down from the big adrenaline rush earlier in the book - will have to re-read!

Then again, I might re-read most of the series at some point. I used to read all the previous ones before a new book came out, but I think I stopped doing that somewhere around book 5 (which I thought was by far the poorest of the series) and there were references in book 7 to things I couldn't remember at all.

My thoughts echo yours, completely.

And how he wanted to die looking into Harry's eyes because they reminded him of Lily's - that was poignant

I thought so too; I was quite surprised at how much that line affected me, reading it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm normally quite indifferent about Snape, but I did feel moved by that and by some parts of his memories. Just think how hard it would have been for him to show that to Harry too, particularly after his last experience of showing Harry his memories in OoTP. Harry's right - he was a brave man.

I agree with all of it! And what really bugged me about Remus and Tonks was that in the scene with Harry and the Resurrection Stone, Remus showed up without her. I was like, "Dude, you've only been dead for an hour, aren't you hanging out with her in the afterlife?" :D

Yeah, that annoyed me too. But really it was just the general pointlessness of it all. They really didn't need to die, apart from to provide a literary construct. That makes me sad.

I was happy with Remus's death. That sounds really callous; I was upset - as I said in my post, the part where I really started bawling was when Sirius and Remus's ghosts were described. But I thought the death worked very well from a narrative standpoint. I agree with you that I'd have loved to see it on-screen. But we have fanfic for that :).

I completely panicked when Neville attacked Voldemort! I really thought that was it. Phew!

Maybe I need to read it again more slowly. I was still reeling from Fred's death when I got there and then suddenly Remus & Tonks were dead too, and I was all "What?! What?!!". It just seemed to go by so fast, almost as an afterthought. As I say, it made me sad that she seemed to let Remus die in such a brief, offhand way.

But yay for Neville! And Herbology professor too :) *smooches Neville*

I was upset with the off-stage deaths as well, at first - but now I'm sort of thinking that that's what it must have felt like to Harry, too (which is the point of view we have in the book).
Big battle, lots of friends dying, and you're not even *there* to watch them die?
He must have thought 'what what what?' as well, at that point.

But yes, poor Tonks got completely glossed over.

(and that point in the book was also where I completely lost it, after a few sniffles earlier, when Dobby died. Oh, and I'd felt really sad about Hedwig, too - I kept hoping she wasn't dead, much more than with Dumbledore!)

You make a great point about Harry's feelings and his POV - I really hadn't thought about that. I will muse on that a bit now, and see how I feel about poor Remus' method of departure on a second reading.

Poor Remus. I suppose I just think he deserved a little longer to be happy, you know?

*sniffs*
