Home again, home again, jiggity jig

Well, I'm back from the wedding, and it turned out to be really, really lovely - I'm so glad I went. My school friend just looked radiant and spent the whole day grinning, as did her new husband. And everything was relaxed and fun, and full of joy and laughter unlike some of the more formal weddings I've been to. My friend and her husband are ( Read more... )

I've never heard of Julia Cameron before, but after googling, I realise that I have used a similar technique myself at times: sitting down first thing in the morning and just writing whatever came into my head for five minutes. Sometimes I'd talk about a dream I'd just woken from, sometimes I'd describe the sunrise; other times I'd just chat about what I expected from the day. It's quite a nice exercise, although in only five minutes there's no way you can get the kind of developments she seems to be suggesting can be achieved in half an hour.

I wonder a bit whether I'll be disciplined enough to find another 30 minutes every morning. I'm not good at mornings at the best of times, so this will be quite a challenge I think, particularly given that some mornings there is running to fit in as well. But I guess however long I can manage it would be good just to get into the habit of writing something every day.

Yeah - I think the first one is likely to be a problem for me too. Although I'm OK with the second one as I write a longhand diary when I'm travelling. It makes those interminable hours in the airport fly by and is a nice alternative to carrying half your own body weight in books with you :)

Thanks for the tip about your friend. I shall hop over and introduce myself at some point and see what she has to report.
