Occasionally I leave the house in a near zombie like coma and only snap awake when the engine fires in my car requiring me to get frosty for the drive. During these times I come to realize i've left something at home... usually my work keys but today my iphone. I can't believe how weird and out of sorts not having my phone makes me. It isn't like I ( Read more... )

I look at all my crap, and then decide...if I had to fit it all in one vehicle and drive off leaving the rest behind, what would I leave? And thus, I give all sorts of things to Value Village.

Furnature gets problematic, but I'd just leave that stuff behind.

Furnature IS problematic. I feel like I need to get a dining room table now however. The rest is likely to fall off me like falling leaves when I move next time however. I think it might be time to get some grown up furniture.

funny... I used to really really hate my cell phone because I had a girlfriend that would get upset if I didn't answer whenever she called (okay several girlfriends) but now that I am over that and can just silence the ring, check the voicemail and get back to people when I can. I really like having a cell. I feel like if someone starts treating me like I MUST answer or respond right away I should take that as a sign that things are not meant to be that close in our relationship. Ironically I just recently critisized someone for being unable to be contacted... but I expressly do not feel like they NEED to get a cell phone. It just makes it difficult to have a close relationship with someone if you can only contact them on a land line that you can't really call and get them on...

stuff rules are handy. I like yours. Mine might have to have a bit more flexability for my comfort for a bit, but perhaps not too long.

if i haven't used something or thought much about a particular item that's been stored away after about a year, it's usually a good indication to purge and get rid of it. that's what i've done and continue to do.

a good plan :)
I tend to have cycles of some stuff though.
I tend to go snowboarding only about every other year in spurts and then it just sits in my storage... guess I should use that to motivate me to go more. I should trade/sell/barter with a bunch of other stuff for things I want now... like... a bike.

I use my phone a tremendous amount independent of anyone actually calling me. In fact, phone calls are incredibly rare, and unless I'm expecting a specific call I am suspicious and wary of voice calls. Text messages are amazing in the fact that you can communicate small bits of data without having to intrude immediately on anyone.

More often then not my phone is an informational organizer, a media player, and an online communicator. I get a lot of text messages, twitter, friendfeed updates and various other social pings though it, so there is a little expectation that I reciprocate but it's never a requirement that I respond. I guess the difference is that I use it proactively as an interactive window into my social sphere, instead of a reactive client, which is how I classify 'classic' phones.

So what I'm getting at is that I understand how you feel without your phone, and you shouldn't feel bad about it.

Welcome to the 21st century. :)
