I'm having gall bladder surgery on Thursday and am a tad worried about my three month old. She'll be at the hospital and with her daddy, it's a laproscopic procedure, and we have frozen breastmilk. I might or might not have to stay at the hospital overnight. She can nurse pretty much as soon as I'm awake ( Read more... )

It's the time frame the surgeon has given me. I think he might be padding his answer though.

my son was just shy of 3 months when i had mine taken out. just make sure you have someone to help you for a few days since lifting your baby might be a problem, as it was for me. and a breastfeeding pillow will be your biggest friend.

I had to be admitted for mine because it was done on an emergency basis so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to help. As for the baby, I don't know because my youngest (at that time) was 5 years old.

My daughter was 6 weeks old when I had my gallbladder out. She nursed right up until I was taken back to surgery. She fussed a tiny bit in the waiting room with my parents, but turned her nose up at pumped milk. She nursed right away when I woke up.

I had my gallbladder out lapriscopicaly when my babe was 3 months old and her dad waited in the hospital with her too. :)
She had not taken to bottles at all ahead of time. I pumped a bottle anyway just in case.
I nursed her before going in and made sure the hospital KNEW I would be nursing her in recovery if required and WOULD be keeping her in my bed if I had to stay overnight.
The hospital ended up being co-operative. The baby fussed a bit and refused her bottle (as ever before and after ha!). But surgery was fast and I nursed her in my hospital room.

Make sure you have help for the first 3 days. If you take things slow the recovery is super fast.
