Does anybody have experience with gluten-free cooking or baking?

My husband may have developed an intolerance to wheat. He needs to take more tests, but his doctor suggested looking into a gluten-free diet. I can't find much in our local grocery stores. Have no fear! Gluten-free options are SO MUCH better than they were 10 years ago (when my niece was born). Two of my sisters are gluten-intolerant, and Maureen has to cook gluten-free for the niece and nephew.

If your husband has no nut allergies, he should be better off than my clan. Many gluten substitutes have nuts which my clan can't have. Whole Foods is a great place to find gluten-free items - it is more expensive, though. Do you have a Wegman's nearby? They mark their store brands if it is gluten-free. Gluten-free bakeries are also becoming more popular - if you can find one near you that'll be a good source of bread for things like sandwiches and pizza.

I'm going to hook you up with my sister rynnalyn because she's gluten-free and cooks often. I'll also tap Maureen for specific recipes.

Honey-Nut Chex - my new favorite cereal - is gluten free.

I just looked at websites for both those stores--unfortunately, they don't have stores here. :( I looked at the websites for two of my local stores; one claims to have a gluten-free section (have to check) and the other I went to this evening and found a very small section, but nothing online.

I was thinking I'd have to buy my own flour and bake bread and cookies. I'll keep looking though.
