I think you pretty much described a Prius. However, if you don't think you have the money for one, a diesel Jetta or something like that should also work for you.

I would probably suggest a Jetta as well. I am loving my Mazda 3 and it handles the Chicago winter well but it does not get quite as much mpg as you have requested. And while Singin' isn't as tall as your man, he fits in my Mazda without complaint and plenty of knee room.

My parents have a Focus that they love. After hearing how your Focus behaved (or didn't, really) for you, I'd be difficult to convince to give one a try though.... :-)

Yeah my Focus, she was special, that is for sure.

I don't know the mpg but opticsdoug has a Subaru (wagon style). I borrowed it for a while when my Focus was being special and I was in love with its handling abilities during the round of two week snow storms we had last year right before Christmas.
