Because I live in ranching-land near the border and if I wear it out Assumptions are made. My fiance has already been stopped and asked for papers/ID just because she has a deep tan and black hair. (She's Norwegian fer fecks sake!) Even though I am pale, blond haired and blue eyed, I sometimes get asked if I'm Mexican.

short answer? YES
longer more specific answer: still yes, but. first of all, ADWD is the 5th book in the series and each book is around 1000 pages long. NOT SOMETHING TO BE ENTERED INTO LIGHTLY. the style is really not for everyone; most people i've talked to tend to get stuck/have the most difficulty with the first 200 pages of the 1st book. either you can get through it or you can't, and even if you can you tend to read those pages going "why am i reading this what what i don't care why am i still reading this" until you hit the hump and are suddenly "NEED MORE BOOK AAAAAAAAA WHO NEEDS SLEEP THERE'S ASOIAF TO READ AAAAAAAAA"

it's also got some tricky shit in it. like: rape, abuse, gore, grotesque descriptions of war, everything being horrible all the time, everything you love being destroyed before your eyes because GRRM is the worst troll, more awfulness. basically, it's a Crapsack Worldhowever, it also has some of the richest world building i've yet come across, scads upon scads
