ELI BRADLEY. ELI MY LOVE. I think what I love the very most about Eli -- other than that he is slightly cranky (this is a character weakness of mine) and actually very drily funny (ALSO A CHARACTER WEAKNESS OF MINE) -- is that he might just have the best damn character arc in the series. He has not gotten the big splashy personal arcs where he gets to take on his demons or his (grand)parents' demons or the mess of a legacy his (grand)parents left him, but he has meanwhile just been growing up in to a pretty damn amazing guy, quietly, in the background.
He is an amazing co-leader these days, thoughtful and sensible and brave and caring, and it is a huge but entirely natural leap from where he started off from, and I love him love him love him for it.
I NEEDED TO DO IT. I seriously felt kind of sick to my stomach this morning when I saw all the hate. I guess folks are taking the opportunity to air some long held hate? But I just don't get iiiiiiiiiiiit.
I mean, yeah, I LOVE LOVE LOVE angry/cranky/grumpfaces possibly too much, but that is really really NOT all Eli is. And anyway, him being angry is pretty justifiable, honestly. But I feel like he gets dismissed for that, because, really, what else is there to hate on? He's the type of guys who is deeply loyal to the people he eventually lets in and will fight for them, even while snarking/snarling at them. He TOOK A KREE LASER FOR CAP WHEN HE HAD NO POWERS. he DOES have a sense of humor, he's had character growth, and despite the really fucking heavy legacy that he's carrying around on his shoulders, he doesn't dump that on other people, but tries to work through it himself. He triesHas he fucked up? Made bad decisions? Yes. THEY ALL HAVE. his I actually find more understandable than some of the others

oh god my heart is full of feelings right now my eli cup runneth over
SECRET FAVOURITE YA CHARACTER ): ): ): ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I am so going to bookmark this post so that I may come back to it and gaze upon Eli's face as often as I want to. HE IS SO SMART AND BRAVE AND KIND AND ELIIIIIIII
Wait wait wait. There is Eli-hate going on? Eli-hate should not be going on, because Eli is friggin' awesome. "Chase Stein could grow up to be the next Captain America"? Chase Stein is going to need to find another legacy to hop on, because Eli Bradley is the next Captain America. Did everyone miss the Cap Speech he gave to Osborn that ended with him delivering a one-punch through the Iron Patriot armor?
Eli's been the only one who's even had contact with the Common Sense Ball throughout Children's Crusade, and the rest of the team has been shooting him down and getting pissed off at him for it. Up to and including "let's shoot an arrow into the Wiccan-Scarlet Witch-Doom Power Circle" idea, because giving Doom that power is GOING TO END BADLY. Like fun Billy could have kept Doom from getting a hold of all that power, Doom has already demonstrated his ability to futz with Billy's head. So if you want to call a Young Avenger a "dumb shit", that one had better not be Eli.
Does Eli still have a lot of learning to do? Yes. Has he made a mistakes? Yes. Even if we're counting the actual shooting of Wanda as one of those mistakes, it's not like he was like WHEEE I'MA SHOOT MY FRIEND'S MOM, it was more YOU GUYS, THIS IS A REALLY REALLY BAD IDEA MAYBE WE SHOULD TRY AND STOP IT. So you know. C'mon.
