[ PART ONE: backdated to 12/17. It's rather late in the evening when Akaya starts recording; he has Yagyuu's Vulpix, Masako, snuggled up in his lap. He is uncharacteristically despondent, and for somebody who wears all his emotions openly, it's pretty obvious that something really has him down. ]

... It feels like everybody from my team is leaving.

[Deep down, Yagyuu doesn't feel much better about the whole Rikkai exodus than Akaya does, but the fact remains that he is the senpai here and that does come with certain duties, one of which involves acting like everything is fine and under control even when it's not. He's done it before and he'll do it again, and right now he knows that one of his primary responsibilities involves keeping an eye on their second-year in their teammates' absence.

Which is what brings him to the door of the room Akaya's in (surprisingly minus Sudoku for once), waiting patiently to be acknowledged before entering.]

It's a little surprising how big she's getting, isn't it?

Yeah... she was so little when she first hatched! And now she looks like she could probably evolve any day now. [ but Akaya personally prefers her as a little Vulpix, maybe since that's how he first met her. ]

Weird how time seems to pass so quickly, it feels like it wasn't that long ago I got her as an egg.

[A thoughtful look crosses his face when Akaya mentions evolving; it's something he's been thinking about himself lately, now that his little fox is getting bigger and stronger all the time. Her evolution will take a Fire Stone, though, and he's finding that puts him in a strangely emotional position--holding her evolution in his hands, faced with the choice to let her become a Ninetales and keep surpassing her limits...or keep her his little Vulpix forever, and never lose what she is to him now.

It's a surprisingly difficult decision.]

It'll be five months next week. Which makes three days until my own six-month anniversary, come to think of it. It's the seventeenth today.

[He comes in quietly, taking a seat of his own and folding his hands in his lap.]

She grew up fast.

You've been keeping track? I don't even remember the exact day I got here, ahaha...

[ ... ] But yeah. Seems like everybody is changing and growing a lot... it makes me think, that maybe I need to do a little growing up soon, too.

Hey, don't think that, Akaya. I'm sure they didn't plan to leave like that, it's just this place that does that. It's not cool, I know it very well, but your friends and you were happy, so don't regret that time together.

Mm... right! I just need to think positively about it all. I mean... it was really great while they were here. And I'm glad that they're back home, too.

[ there's a pause, before he gives a small smile: ] Thanks, Bartz.

Ah... that's true! [ he smiles again, a little wider than the last - ] I'm glad. I've found lots of great friends in Johto!
