Summary: Mai's rushing through the halls to get to her next class, but someone bumps into her and doesn't even offer to help her up. Kisara is quickly going through her locker, and the two find each other. Then they have a heart to heart talk about certain things that have happened. ;_;
It had been a little over a week since Mai's... current stress level had increased considerably. Even as she rushed through the halls to her next class, she wasn't feeling exactly at ease. School, she liked to think, was causing her stress, as there had been an increase in school work. Also, she couldn't afford to be late to another class. Which was why she was in such a hurry. She hadn't even had time to stop by her locker, and figured lugging around a couple books couldn't hurt all that much. At least until another student came running around the corner, in as much of a hurry as she was in. She didn't think much of it until the boy ran smack into her, causing her to lose her grip on all her work and books. The kid didn't even stop to apologize, and continued running off. "...damnit!" Mai glared back after having noted all her things scattered on the floor. This school really needed to invest in keeping classrooms closer together. The blonde girl let out a shaky sigh. She was going to be late. Again.
Kisara was hurrying to her next class as well. She'd been thinking about things during lunch and has lost track of time, thusly not snapping out of it until a couple minutes after the bell rang. She really needed to get to her locker, which was luckily just around the corner from her next class. Stopping in front of it, she frantically spun around the lock, unaware that her friend was just a few feet away.
Most Heinous DX: Mai didn't even bother to gather the things around her quickly. She was going to be late anyway, and the teacher wasn't going to accept her excuses no matter what she said. She winced when she propped herself on her knee. Must've hit it when I fell.. She sighed. Things really weren't going to start looking up, were they? She was broken from her thoughts when she heard something behind her. "Kisara-chan?" She asked, waving to her friend when she saw her.
Kisara jumped and turned around quickly. "O-Oh! Mai-chan!" she said with a sigh. "I didn't see you...are you okay?" ...oh, of course she's not okay. Jou-kun...
Mai finally gathered everything she had dropped in her arms. "Oh, I'm--fine." She paused. "Ah, could you lend me a hand? I'm sorry. I think I hurt my knee when this jerk ran into me." She laughed nervously, hoping she wasn't causing Kisara any trouble.
Kisara smiled softly and closed the locker. "Of course," she replied. Heading over to her friend, she began to pick up the scattered schoolwork. "We can be late just once, neh?"
Mai felt a smile come to her lips. "You're so nice, Kisara-chan," she said, not really knowing why that made her sad as well. "Ne~ We'll always be friends, right?"
Kisara looked up at her, smiling again. "Of course we will, silly~"
Mai laughed a little. That felt nice. She needed to talk with Kisara more than she had been lately. "Yes, yes. Of course," she said, smiling once more as she helped her friend. She was acting strange, but she couldn't really tell she was. "You can tell your teacher it was my fault you were late."
Kisara laughed a little herself. "Nah, it's okay. I'll take whatever punishment I get," she said. Part of her really wanted to ask about Jounouchi but... well, now didn't seem to be the best time. Maybe after school...
"No really~" Mai laughed. "Half the people in this school get punishments they don't really deserve." She shook her head, leaning against a locker to prop herself up without irritating her knee. She blinked when she heard the bell ring. "Haha, well. It takes about another five minutes for me to get from here to where I'm going. I'll see you later~?"
Kisara hopped up herself. "Sure!" She paused for a moment. "Want to come over after school? I was bored and baked a cake last night~" she said with a grin.
Mai brightened at the invite, feeling warmth in her heart. "Of course~ I'd love to!" she answered with enthusiasm. "See you then~" she waved, running to her class.

Kisara adjusted her bag a bit as she waited out in the front courtyard of the school. Ever since then, she'd been thinking of how to bring up what had happened but hadn't thought up anything that either made sense or was very nice. So she figured just to let it go and if it somehow got brought up...so be it. She frowned as the wind blew her hair all over the place. "...I should get a haircut," she mumbled to herself.
Mai had unfortunately been on the opposite side of the buidling from where they agreed to meet. She hurried quickly enough, but many kids managed to block her way the majority of the time. When she made it to the courtyard, she was a flushed mess. "I'm sorry I'm late!" She called, rushing to Kisara. "It's pretty crowded," she said, stating the obvious. "How long have you been waiting?"
Kisara smiled and waved a hand. "Not too long, no worries! How was your day since I last saw you?"
Mai ran her hand through her hair. "I've had better~" She said, truthfully, smiling a little. "I can't wait to taste Kisara-chan's cake. I bet it tastes real good," she said, as they began to walk.
She laughed a bit. "Oh, don't get your hopes up. I wouldn't want to destroy your cakey dreams."
Mai laughed as well, covering her mouth with her hand. "I'm sure it's worth my while." She caught herself looking around more than she should. Jounouchi would always wait for her, and walk her home from school. She swallowed down, that wasn't going to happen anymore. She had already gone through this with herself.
Kisara noticed this and bit her lip. "Something wrong, Mai-chan?"
Mai was caught off guard a bit by Kisara, then again she had been pretty out of it lately. "Oh--I'm fi--" Why would she need to lie to Kisara? "Well, I was just thinking." She sighed.
"What about?" she asked, putting some hair behind her ear.
Mai bit her lip. "Oh, it's nothing too important," she put off. She didn't want to bring down Kisara's day or anything. Besides, they were going to have fun, right?
Kisara sighed and put a hand on her shoulder. "Alrighty. But you can talk to me about anything, remember?"
"I know," Mai answered, feeling her throat tighten. "You're such a good friend, Kisara." She paused, biting her lip a bit harder than before. "And forgiving."
Kisara felt a twist in her chest as she remembered what Jounouchi had said before...that. She got the thought out of her head quickly. "Aw, Mai-chan..."
Mai quickly brought a hand to wipe the moisture she was beginning to feel in her eyes. "Oh, look at me. There's--I shouldn't be acting like this."
Kisara bit the inside of her cheek. Without much thought, she reached over and hugged her friend tight. "It's okay to cry..."
Mai laughed a bit shallowly as more tears came, but didn't refuse Kisara's friendly embrace. She hugged back, squeezing slightly. "Kisara, Kisara-chan~ I've made the biggest mistake of my life!"
She let out a sigh and patted her friend's back. She was still in the dark of what had actually happened... "Everything will be fine, Mai-chan. I know it will."
Mai shook her head. "I wish it were that easy. You see, Jou, he--" She couldn't believe how much it hurt just to say his name. "I did something neither of us can forgive."
"Oh, I don't believe that..." Kisara said softly, smoothing down some of Mai's blonde hair. "Everything can be forgiven if you give it time..."
Mai sniffed, pulling back a bit so she could look at Kisara. "You--you think?"
She nodded. "Of course! Unless you went on some homicidal rampage...which I highly doubt you did," Kisara replied in an attempt to lighten the mood. Or not.
Mai stared blankly at her, as if Kisara tried to make a joke and Mai was clueless what the punch line was. ...Then after a few moments, she laughed softly. "Even if Jou loved me again, I'd still have trouble believing that," she sighed. She covered her mouth soon after. "..Um, sorry. We broke up, and I'm--well I guess I'm not handling it too well." She tried to find her smile again.
Kisara sighed sadly and pulled her friend into another hug. "Mai-chan..." She didn't know if it would be a good idea to mention that she'd spoken with Jou, considering it seemed like such a strain to even say his name.
Mai closed her eyes, hugging Kisara. "I have no resistance to alcohol, Kisara-chan. He got mad at me because I drank. I.." she choked again, failing at holding back more tears. "...I never even want to look at anything alcoholic again."
...ah, it all made sense now. Kisara frowned and just held her friend close. "Everyone makes mistakes, hun."
"But this--this is the one mistake I couldn't afford to make." Mai wiped her eyes again, getting herself to stop crying for the time being. "Look where its gotten me."
"Hey, hey...I find it very hard to believe that Jou-kun doesn't love you anymore," Kisara said softly. If that kiss was any indication...okay, don't think about that right now.
Mai was a bit surprised. "Why?" She found it very easy to believe when he wouldn't accept her key.
"It just...doesn't seem like him at all. I don't think he could just up and forget you like that," Kisara said, giving somewhat of a sad smile.
Mai finally smiled again. Well, maybe if Jou loved her.... That would still be enough, right? "You do have a point," she snorted, remembering.
"Of course I do," she replied, her smile turning into a very slight grin. "Now, dry those tears. I won't have you crying on my cake."
Mai laughed brightly, wiping away any of her remaining tears. "We couldn't have that, now could we~?" She joked, pulling back from Kisara.
"Not in my house!" Kisara feigned a stern look before giving up and laughing.
Mai grinned, placing her hands behind her back. "Just how far is your house full of rules?"
"Just a couple more blocks," she replied. Kisara brushed her thin hair from her eyes again. "Agh, stupid wind..."
Mai glanced over at the girl, as her mouth curved into a different kind of smile. "Kisara-chan, have you ever thought about getting a new look?"
Kisara blinked and tossed some of her long hair over her shoulder. "I've been thinking about it...I've had my hair long like this for as long as I can remember."
"You should think of maybe cutting it," Mai said, her eyes glowing. "It would look so cute~"
"Ooo, maybe~" Kisara smiled. "Perhaps a little past my shoulders...it'd sure be a lot easer to take care of!"
Mai giggled, nodding. "And I'm sure Seto would love it!" Mai almost thought of bringing Kisara shopping for a new wardrobe, then she remembered she had already done that.
Kisara blushed a bit. "Hopefully~ Maybe I could do it this weekend..."
Mai reached over and patted Kisara's head. "I'd like to come with you, if that's alright."
x sakebi x: Kisara laughed a little under her breath. "Sure thing!"
Mai smiled in approval, bringing her hand back to her own. She caught sight of a familiar house around the corner. "Mm. I can almost smell the cake from here."
With a grin, she took her friend's hand. "Well, let's hurry up then!"
Mai wobbled a bit, but quickly caught up with her friend's pace. Kisara was right. Mai shouldn't give up on Jou so easily. Mai loved the guy, didn't she? And you just don't give up when you find something as wonderful as what she had with the other blonde.
