Character Name: Hanyuu Furude
Character Series: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Character Age: somewhere in her 20s in life. Mentally, she's hundreds of years old, and physically around 12-14 in her current form.
Background: wikipedia
Personality: A distant ancestor of Rika's, and the real founder of the Furude family, Hanyuu, or Hainiryūn Ieasomūru Jieda, is the 'Oyashiro-sama' that the villagers often refer to, a demon god, though certainly, she's a far cry from the 'Oyashiro-sama' the villagers think of. Timid and quiet, and easily frightened and intimidated, Hanyuu doesn't exactly come off as a vengeful or frightening deity, let alone one who would cure people. In fact, Hanyuu hates violence and suffering, and is horrified that people associate her name with such things, becoming irritated and discouraged when it's brought up. During occasions in which Takano Miyo enters the Saiguden and talks about the violent history of the Onigafuchi in front of Oyashiro-sama's statue, Hanyuu, upset, repeatedly stomps the floor in frustration, exclaiming that she never asked anyone to torture people. Hanyuu has a tendency to utter her trademark "Au au au..." when upset or excited, though when angry, her eyes turn red, and her voice becomes more mature and stern.

Hanyuu is also very loving, though she harbors a lot of guilt towards the suffering she's inadvertently caused Rika and her friends, often feeling helpless or despairing due to being unable to influence events, because she lacks a physical form that everyone can see. This leads to her to apologize for being useless, and led her to the habit of following people who were falling into paranoia or were about to die, repeatedly apologizing. She is the source of the footsteps and the feeling of being watched that those suffering from Hinamizawa Syndrome have reported noticing, and the voices they hear are Hanyuu herself. Hanyuu is also sensitive about her horns, and she actually happens to dislike them, thinking of them as 'ugly'. She is also the one who told her daughter, Ouka, to kill her, accepting the blame for the chaos and turmoil in the world, and stating that by doing such, she could repent for people's sins, if someone of demon and human blood killed her own demon mother.

Hanyuu's favorite foods are sweets, especially cream puffs, which she can taste through her linked senses with Rika. Her least favorite foods are spicy kimchi and alcohol, which Rika enjoys, and sometimes eats to punish Hanyuu when she feels the demon god is being annoying.

With each new world they visit, Hanyuu is the one to tell Rika not to get her hopes up, and to wait patiently for a fortunate world to come; overall, Hanyuu is very pessimistic about finding their ideal world, and Rika escaping death. She does this to keep Rika from feeling disappointed when her hopes are crushed, and also does this to prolong Rika's mental health. Secretly, despite her pessimistic nature about going from world to world, she's happy about repeating June of 1983 over and over, so as long as she gets to stay by Rika's side. As Rika is the only one able to see Hanyuu in such a long time, she's happy that she's been able to spend more time with Rika than anyone else. This, in turn, causes Rika to become pessimistic about finding their ideal world.

Hanyuu has a habit of watching the Games Club's activities, unknown to them, and wants to join them. Although she lacks a physical form for a majority of the series, she'd like very much to be able to play with Rika's friends, even though they can't see her. She also has a habit of ending her sentences in "na no desu", or "that is so", and refers to herself with the masculine "boku", which is considered to be cute for girls her age.

Abilities: As the demon god of Hinamizawa, Hanyuu has the ability to create multiple dimensions, all parallel to the original; she is the one responsible for the eternally repeating Showa 58. Hanyuu's existence is linked to Rika's as well- she can feel everything Rika feels, and if Rika dies, Hanyuu, too, will eventually die, which is why she creates a new world every time Rika meets her end.

Hanyuu also possesses other abilities, such as flying, intangibility, and telekinesis. She also has the power to temporarily stop the flow of time to alter an event, and can see and act through the previous Hanyuus in past timelines, just as Rika can.
