As more and more people use the internet for entertainment, news, and knowledge, do we risk losing the cultural ties that gave us at least a small amount of common ground?

Yep. Moving a little bit down the long tail. Not Phillip Parker down, but a lot more atomized than leave it to beaver.

How come? laughter and etertainment seems to be one of the better values in these times. Industry is best, but how do you incent that in a career-focused, specialized economy such as ours?
