I was happy with a 26. But then my mother comes in and starts with the whole "I know you and what you're capable of. I just don't want you to disappoint yourself by not reaching your full potential blah blah. Your future rides on getting a great score now so you can get into a great college later so you can get a great job one day blah blah. No pressure, though."
Sigh. So now I'm trying breathing exercises so I don't hyperventilate from my own stupidity.
But thank you for the sweet comment. I really needed it!
A 26 should get you into most colleges as long as you have the grades to go with it, unless you are going for Ivy League, in which case you might want a couple more points.
Still - keep in mind that schools are looking at SAT and ACT scores less and less. You need a good balance of everything.
Big things they look for - being active in your school, volunteer hours, etc. Also - several really great letters of recommendation go a VERY long way. Also - I can not express ENOUGH how much an interview at your top choice colleges goes. If you WOW them in person, they will often forgive a blemish on your permanent record (not that I would call a 26 a blemish by any means!)
Every year U.S. News and World Report publishes an issue all about the top colleges, and also includes some great articles on what colleges look for, changes in admission that colleges are going through, etc. These articles were INVALUABLE to me when I was searching for colleges. I suggest you seek these issues out. They're a great help.
Wow, thank you! I've calmed down considerably since my post and now I'm thinking more rationally. I'm not trying for an Ivy League but one of my top choices said I could get a free ride if I could bring it up two points. And I have a solid GPA and plenty of service hours... I just need to remember to take a breath so I don't freak out my colleges' interviewers with my intensity!
That all was really good advice... I'm definitely going to remember it! You should be a life coach! Haha, that'd be an interesting job, no?
Thank you again! I really do appreciate your comments. They're always so lovely and kind.

The score on math is, of course, somewhat low, but if you could bring that up then you would have an awesome score.
