As a writer I sure do appreciate a comment like this. I waffle over how horrible I think what I put the characters through is. I'm a very pragmatic person and tend to think if you have working limbs and brain you're ahead of the game, but at the same time I realize how much our sense of self is tied up to our sense of body and that this could really be harrowing.
Slso, dossier wrote the greatest coda to this and posted it yesterday, if you haven't seen it: Sheppard's Hand. Which is slash, but not romance, and fantastic.
So, December will be the month I get my back log of comments answered (riiiight), but meanwhile, I'm catching up, so you get an answer to something from October.
The irony after the last ep 5.15 is killing me.
I do get a lot of strange story ideas just from thinking what some remark would translate to literally. Right hand man, etc. Then the hard part is to make it work. I kind of got it this time. Sometimes I crash and burn.
Thank you for the comment - which I read and appreciated at the time and again now.
Really enjoyed Patchwork, especially Rodney's reaction to discovering what happened to John and later on when John realizes the implications of his new changes. Your stories are always well-written and evocative, looking forward to reading more from you. ^_^
We've seen darker stuff than this in canon, but at least here, we see the characters dealing with the aftermath. Something we don't get enough of in canon, I think (even with time constraints, we should see something). I guess I'm what some would call a whumper. ;) I like seeing the characters really put through their paces, so long as everyone's brought back out of the darkness in the end.

Perfect plot.
Perfect characterisation.
Angst that almost overloads the reader.
A resolution, that is not pat, or perfect, but...real.
Always a surprise. Always so good it stimulates the imagination.
As a writer, I am so, so jealous of the amount of talent you display.
As a reader, I'm so so GRATEFUL that you write fiction about these shows, and share it with us.
